Message from the COA President

Hello COA Members:
On behalf of the Columbus Osteopathic Association Executive Council, thank you for your continued support of our local district academy.
Last year was very successful with a couple of CME programs, the traditional dinner meetings, a personal finance workshop, our first-ever award at the Ohio Osteopathic Symposium poster contest, and lots of interaction with osteopathic medical students. We plan to build on that success this year!
At our first Executive Council meeting last week, we brainstormed about possible CME topics and personal development and wellness sessions, as well as locations. Our CME events will be free, one-hour programs—if you are a speaker or have meeting space at your facility, let us know.
The first student-centered event is already set. The Welcome Picnic for the OU-HCOM Class of 2023 is Wednesday evening, August 21. Be sure to save the date and watch for more details this summer.
Your participation in the Central Ohio osteopathic community is important to us—and very much appreciated. Whether you’re simply a dues-paying member or attend COA events or serve as a delegate, your involvement is crucial. Teach OU-HCOM Medical Students, Earn CME
If you are interested in teaching first and second year medical students in a clinical setting in the Columbus area, we have a great opportunity for you! Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine (OUHCOM)-Dublin campus is looking for community physicians to help hone and develop the clinical skills of current medical students. First or second year medical students would be scheduled to your site and work with you throughout the morning or afternoon (typically four hours), learning how to interact with you and your patients and staff in order to deliver care. All physician preceptors have the opportunity to be identified as Heritage College faculty and receive AOA Category 1B CME credit for each hour of student engagement! Volunteer at Local Free Clinics
OU-HCOM students are actively involved in the Central Ohio community. You can join them and other area medical students and physicians at free clinics in Columbus. For example, the OSU Spanish Free Clinic is on Tuesday evenings and a free clinic at Columbus Public Health is every Monday evening.
