The Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine is a leader in providing a patient-centered, clinically integrated medical education continuum, from pre-medical education to undergraduate medical education, and through residency training, with an emphasis on primary care. Our focused research and community health programs speak to our commitment to improving health and well-being in our communities and the quality of life for our patients. As the state’s only osteopathic medical school, our college was founded in 1975 and the main campus is located at Ohio University’s Athens, Ohio campus.
Within the Heritage College, the Office of Rural and Underserved Programs (ORUP) oversees the Rural and Urban Scholars Pathways program (RUSP), and the Continuity in Primary Care Longitudinal Integrated Clerkship (CPC-LIC) elective, and other programs for students interested in primary care or generalist specialties of primary importance in rural and urban underserved communities.
We are seeking a part-time (0.20 FTE) Assistant Clinical Professor in Primary Care who will serve as the Associate Director of ORUP. This clinical faculty member will assist in the continuing design and implementation of the RUSP program, specifically at HCOM’s Athens campus, including but not limited to curriculum design, workshop design and implementation, recruitment, education, faculty development, and participation in research endeavors. The associate director for the Athens campus will be the primary contact for the RUSP students on that campus, serving as their coach and Clinical Jazz facilitator and advisor on scholarly activity and facilitate small groups in the Open Book Project Narrative Medicine elective pathway as needed.
Additionally, we seek a clinician who can build partnerships with community organizations in order to offer community-engaged professional development opportunities for HCOM students over the course of the year. Opportunities to contribute to the teaching of all students on the Athens Campus with respect to the care of rural and underserved urban populations also exist.
