OOA Testifies Against PA Title Change: HB353

Wehrum Testimony HB 353

The Ohio House Health Committee on Wednesday heard opposition testimony on a bill to change the title of "Physician Assistant" to "Physician Associate." Henry L. Wehrum, DO, represented the Ohio Osteopathic Association by testifying at the Statehouse against HB 353.

OOA is concerned that the changes proposed by this legislation would confuse patients who might think a provider is treating them with training and experience equivalent to a physician.

"Simply put, equating non-physician titles more closely with physicians devalues the education and training that DOs possess," Dr. Wehrum said in testimony.
